Eggs

As far back as history goes, animals and people have been eating eggs. A bit of a morbid thought when you consider that this is essentially poultry abortion, but hey, they're tasty! Eggs are one of the most amazing foods on the planet for many reasons:

Number 1: They're good for you!
Let's start out with health. One single chicken egg contains 6 grams of good protein and all 9 essential amino acids! Additionally, it has that "good" kind of fat, and a very limited amount of the "bad" kind. And thirdly, eggs may prevent breast cancer! There have been studies done showing that women can lower their risk of breast cancer by over 40% by eating 6 eggs per week! Many people will argue that eggs are high in cholesterol, but there's a good argument for why that doesn't matter. I didn't read it, but I assume it's quality literature. So, there. Eggs are good for you; on to number 2...

Number 2: Eggs are versatile!
What other food on this planet has so many ways you can make it? Fried, boiled, omelet, scrambled, poached... the list goes on. Each style creates an entirely unique flavor and texture from the same ingredients! My favorite: over easy with toast for dipping. Yum!

Number 3: They're really cheap!
How much does a dozen eggs cost? Depending on size and location, they can range from $1.50 to $3. Per egg, you're looking at $.13 to $.25! What a cheap breakfast! That's probably cheaper than the fruit you buy to go with the eggs.

I could probably make more entries into this list, but I think I'll leave it at that. For my money, eggs are one of the best foods out there. And for that reason, they are my Thing of the Week!

Next week: That smell when you open a new bag of shredded cheese (what? is that just me?)
